I AM A MAN

Two Mississippi Museums | January 2021-August 2021

I AM A MAN was on our books well before COVID hit. Due to the pandemic we postponed the opening of our large 2020 exhibition, Mississippi Distilled, which was housed in the gallery planned to be used for I AM A MAN in 2021.

The exhibits team quickly pivoted and decided to move the photography exhibition to an empty classroom in the museums. With no lighting control, less space, and a somewhat hidden location, I AM A MAN quickly became a much bigger design challenge than we originally anticipated.

I quickly turned a hallway into an intro wall, the floor into wayfinding, and a classroom into a gallery. I made the decision to eliminate individual labels as they seemed overwhelming in the space and designed a gallery guide that followed the semi-organic hanging plan.
